Bobbi Sorensen

Bobbi Sorensen is an award-winning artist who studied art in Los Angeles in the 60s, earned a BA in Art Education from the University of Maryland, and an MA in Political Science from George Washington University. A Minnesota native, Bobbi’s plan was to teach art but graduated at a time when schools were cutting art teaching jobs. Forced to change directions, she went on to work for the US Senate, and as executive director of several health-related associations, including the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis, a training institute affiliated with George Washington University. During those years she limited herself to doing occasional charcoal portraits and producing designs for newsletters.

After retiring to SC, and experimenting with several mediums, she settled on Oil, working on stretched canvas and her favorite linen panels. Earlier work focused almost entirely on people, but she has begun experimenting with landscapes, and a variety of boats from sailboats, schooners, and UK Midlands canal boats to Italian bragozzo fishing barges. Recreating dramatic skies and water is her latest interest.

Bobbi has entered and won numerous awards at juried shows and regularly displays at area businesses. Some of her work can be seen at Palmetto Fine Arts Gallery in Chapin, and on her website: www.bobbisorensenart.com. Working on commissioned pieces, and participation in local shows now consumes most of Bobbi’s time. Many of her paintings are for sale, and most can be purchased as giclée prints. Bobbi’s philosophy is that it is never too late, and she is making up for those years when a career interfered with her growth as an artist.
